Privacy at Upwind
Updated 4 October 2026. This policy covers the Upwind website and Apple Watch app.
Upwind is operated by Samuel Müller. For privacy requests, contact support@upwind.community.
Information you provide
We store your account name, email address, password hash, profile information, and the content you choose to add: reports, photos, equipment, comments, follows, and plans. Your profile and public contributions are visible to other visitors. Email addresses, password hashes, private report notes, and GPS routes are not public.
Watch recordings and location
When you start a recording, the Watch stores precise GPS coordinates, timestamps, accuracy, speed, and recording settings. These are uploaded with your account identifier so you can see your route and speed statistics. Live mode uploads during recording; offline mode uploads after you stop when a connection is available. GPS routes remain private to your account, including when linked to a public report.
HealthKit provides a workout session for background recording and Water Lock. Upwind does not read your Health history or heart rate. The app does not save workouts to Apple Health. You can revoke location and Health permissions in your device settings.
How we use information
We use this information to provide your account, recordings and community features, deliver account emails, and protect the service. Sign-in records include IP address and browser information. The website uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. The Watch keeps its access token in the device Keychain and recording settings on the device.
The app does not include advertising or cross-app tracking. Hosting, database, file storage, and email delivery providers process information needed to operate the service. Apple supplies the maps displayed in the Watch app.
Storage and deletion
Your account data and recordings remain until deleted. Deleting your account removes your profile, server recordings and GPS points, reports, photos, equipment ownership, comments, follows, and plans, and revokes your sign-ins and Watch connections. Shared spot and equipment catalog entries remain without your attribution; descriptions and facility notes on spots you created are removed. Other members’ reports remain. Photo files are removed by a background cleanup job after deletion.
Recordings also remain locally on each Watch after upload. Deleting your account on the website does not erase these local copies.
Delete your account or open “Privacy & account → Delete account” in the Watch app. You can edit your profile on the website and contact us with privacy questions.
